how to flush your life down the toilet. literally.

I suppose this is an unknown artist. I didn’t see any signature anywhere on the piece. Let’s talk about how good it is…

1. a hand drawn wood grain border – adds tremendously to the backwoods charm
2. The speech bubble is dripping – perhaps the first time I’ve seen this
3. The wife – sorry I cut her full figure out of the frame. She is drawn in a totally different style than our protagonist.
4. The concept is grand. Just grand. A guy so desperate he thinks he can kill himself by flushing himself down the toilet…I almost burst into tears at the tragedy/pathos of this little scene.

  1. i love the cranky old bag with the knock knees.

here’s a dripping speech bubble in a piece of high art from a piece of low art.

  2. Thanks for the link! What other emotions are expressed through the thought/speech bubble itself? Maybe alarm, if they give it pointy edges all around…can a thought bubble pop?

  3. The drippy bubble actually looks like it did pop, to me. It’s as if the bottom blew out and the drips are the frayed bubble fabric.

The whole picture is a real downer. I don’t necessarily like being bummed out but I applaud the artist for invoking the emotion.

  4. i laugh that although he is down, he’s taking life by the horns and controlling his destiny. a man of action. i imagine he’ll just clog the pot and in the next frame his wife would be harping about the water on the floor and he’d still be there with a new speech bubble that says, “drat.”

in the lichtenstein, i think the drips are like icicles.
