This came out in 1985, in English. Assuming it took at least a year to get this released in Turkish, that’s pretty late for a Betamax release, isn’t it? I thought Beta had died off years before this.
Did you pick this up when you lived there?

Yeah. It’s still a developing country. While I was there Gypsies came through the apartment complex offering to patch pots and pans over a fire out in the parking lot. Beta was out of reach of 90% of those folks. I suppose American firms sold all their Beta equipment to poor countries before they knew they were getting swindled.
But a quick look at wikipedia says Sony, who developed Betamax, conceded and started making VHS recorders in 1988 but didn’t stop making Betamax until 2002 – there was still demand in Japan for the format.

Wow. Betamax, crappy pots and pans, no wonder the rest of the world hates us.
