		<description>Yeah.  It&#039;s still a developing country.  While I was there Gypsies came through the apartment complex offering to patch pots and pans over a fire out in the parking lot.  Beta was out of reach of 90% of those folks.  I suppose American firms sold all their Beta equipment to poor countries before they knew they were getting swindled.  

But a quick look at wikipedia says Sony, who developed Betamax, conceded and started making VHS recorders in 1988 but didn&#039;t stop making Betamax until 2002 - there was still demand in Japan for the format.</description>

		<description>This came out in 1985, in English.  Assuming it took at least a year to get this released in Turkish, that&#039;s pretty late for a Betamax release, isn&#039;t it?  I thought Beta had died off years before this.

Did you pick this up when you lived there?</description>
