do i look high?

I wonder if Lyle has read the Arizona law about illegal immigrants. I haven’t. Wouldn’t it be easy to find illegal immigrants in industries they normally work? Like restaurants? If a health inspector can show up and go through your refrigerator, or the fire inspector can tell you need to move your furniture around, why can’t INS come in and check the status of employee’s citizenship? Anytime the police are asked to do something that doesn’t involve solving crimes, it seems like a threat to our security. Oh wait, I guess being illegal is a crime. But it’s like when a cop stops you for jaywalking. It makes that cop look lazy. Why aren’t they searching for killers and rapists?

If French Canadians were swarming our northern border and causing problems, New Hampshire just might pass a law that tried to deal with it. It might target people with a French Canadian accent. However, we should have enough laws in effect that should prevent French Canadians from getting jobs, getting on Medicare, getting licenses to drive. If they can’t get in the system they won’t be in the country for long. Anyone wanna explain this to me?

  1. c’mon. it’s not about looking illegal. it’s about running a red light, speeding, riding a horse through town etc. when the cop stops you, he asks for i.d.

    no tienes? lo ciento, señor.

  2. I just got back from New Hampshire today. On Thursday, I went to a Mexican restaurant in Manchester. My mom had raved about it because the food was great and it appeared to be run by actual Mexicans. I can’t remember the last time I went to a Mexican restaurant that wasn’t run by Latinos.

We stayed at a Best Western in Keene. All the maids were plain old white folks. This is the first hotel in years that I’ve been to where the cleaning crew wasn’t Latino.

Thought you might appreciate that, being gone from there a long time, too.

  3. Note that I’m not saying I want the US to be like NH, just noting that up there is not in line with what I see in the rest of the country.

  4. It used to be even the airport was staffed by all white people. It looked like high school. Maybe four years ago I noticed immediately the food court staff was no longer “native” New Hampshirians. Wait, what do we call ourselves? Klansmen? HaH! JK, I meant honkeys. I think it is time to let some brown into the DNA sequence up there, this rosacea and skin cancer stuff will wipe out the pale faces completely some day.

  5. Because everyone runs around with ID all the time right?

It’s very easy to get stopped by a cop if they want to – there’s tons of little things we do wrong – like jaywalking, maybe not stopping enough, speeding a little. Having to prove you’re legal every time is big discrimination; it’s like saying any Mexican is guilty until proven innocent. It smacks a lot of the discrimination Blacks had to deal with. It also places a big burden on the cops, everyone they meet could be one, and they could have to check them all. Don’t they have better things to do?

The definition is very vague too. Define suspected illegal immigrant? Mexican? How much of the legal Mexican population are you going to harass with this rule? Is it normal in the US to harass the legit people (I guess so, just look at the airport security)? All well for Don to say that, he isn’t going to be asked.

It’s kinda stupid, because next election the legal Mexican population is going to vote them out if they can.

It totally blames the immigrants for the problem, but the business that employs them are just as much part of the problem. How can you employ someone and not do a background check on them? You can’t tell a thief by what s/he looks, so you’re better to check. And while you’re at it, check that s/he’s legal, so you don’t end up losing your worker to the cops. If they started fines for companies that employed illegals, the problem would probably go away overnight. If they were enforced.

Thing is, companies don’t want to check the legality. They want workers they can abuse, pay little, threaten, and those workers won’t complain, because they are illegal. I also wonder just how much whities want to do some of the work they are doing… probably not much… so that is why you have non-whites doing them.

And I agree – the sooner the genes all mix up (hopefully with the best coming out), the sooner we can forget about all this bullshit and move to real issues, real problems.
