santo

Ever hire a Mexican? You usually get to the job site and find out they’re Guatamalean. WTF? Do I gotta start checking ID’s too? I was told to get two Mexicans to break up this concrete and turns out Lucio is from Honduras and Santo is from Tecal.

I wonder what kind of border security Mexico has on it’s southern border. Any one have any idea? The right wing radio I listen to implied it’s not exactly open arms down there.

I did work with Santo. He was a former Guatemalean military commander. He fought guerillas.
“They rape the niños. They rape the niñas,” he told me. He had two long thin scars on the back of his head. “From machete. I don’t feel it. Guerrilas shoot me five times already.” He pulled up his sweat soaked t shirt and showed us a fat scar snaking up his chest. “I lose a lot of intestine.”

I went to the corner to hire a Mexican. I wanted some gentle guy who left his small farm to make some money and now I’m working with a war hero who’s most likely killed a large number of people.

” I believe in Jesus,” he tells me. “who’s Jesus? I don’t know. I believe in something.”

We all do.

  1. from going through the border at belize into mexico and at guatamala to mexico. i reckon you could just walk through some days. it seems so messy and random. the mexico/belize border seemed just a small town with a casino stuck in the middle. i assume that because we were tourists it was easier for us cos we stuck out like sore thumbs.that is, “just leave the tourists alone”. the only place i saw any evidence of seeing if there were people chancing their arms was on the greyhound bus in new mexico when what i assume were homeland security every so often who would get on the bus and hassle everyone who looked south-of-the-borderian. again we were ignored. just saying.

  2. You gotta believe something better’s out there, some days…

I though the Arizona government was pretty one sided to just come down on the immigrants and not on the people hiring them (anyway, remove why they come here, and they won’t come). But it would suck if you had to do checks on every Mexican just to make sure they aren’t illegal immigrants…

That they are doing racial profiling is no surprise though.

  3. Thanks for the info! I didn’t expect an answer, but then again this is the Internet.
