Pretty funny that they go to all that trouble to lay out a back story that's almost completely lost in the final cut. I suppose if the production team cranks out a really kick-ass commercial, people will see it enough to pull out the subtle background hints? Or maybe our subconscious just knows this stuff instantly and doesn't bother to tell the conscious mind anything other than "I want that" or "I relate to that brand message". I wouldn't have looked for it unless I knew what his character was supposed to be. Should there be cliff notes for commercials so we have a complete understanding of the motivations for the actors? Or can you just put a big haired 30ish kid in an old toyota and have him back out of a driveway and everyone gets the picture? I like the added effect of the mascot head on the roof of the car.
