Nothing is sacred in New England when it comes to humor. For years here in Wisconsin I left Midwesterners with uncomfortable looks on their faces until I learned what they could handle. I think it's debatable whether we're behind the times (ignorant/uncivilized) or just evolved to the point that we can be humorously evil without it indicating some underlying bias or ignorance.
