Speaking of carved bone, I saw a huge, sun-bleached scrimshaw turtle shell at the Rowley, Mass. flea market today. I thought to myself, how fucking cool would it be to see a snapping turtle basking with 18th century seafaring pictures etched onto its back. Too bad turtles can't move into empty shells like hermit crabs. I would have totally hook that up.
