You don't have to look at just our wars and our economic success, you should look at any war waged by a superpower throughout history to get the connection. You become a super power and remain one because you invade other places.

Perhaps not economic crests, but the general well being of a populus. ive had a damn good life here, and i hate to think its at the price of smashing other countries. Just seems that we've always had an "axis of evil" to fight. all the listed conflicts after WWII have been cold war battles against the mighty red soviets. now we have the axis of terrorism... wonder if life would change much at home if we werent involved in conflicts.

I'm not seeing the connection. The link between WWII and the exploding US economy is well documented but our most recent 'wars' haven't coincided with economic crests, to my knowledge.

I always thought this country being at war was a new thing. Then I realized, we've ALWAYS been fighting someone one way or another.

1861-1865 : Civil War
1898 : Spanish American War
1917-1918 : WWI
1941-1945 : WWII
1951-1953 : Korean War
1961 : Bay of Pigs Invasion (US Planned and Funded)
1956-1975 : Vietnam War
1980-1992 : El Salvadoran Civil War (Arms Dealing with political agenda)
1987 : Nicaraguan Civil War (Arms Dealing with political agenda)
1999 : Yugoslavia Bombings (NATO Campaign)
and then the present day stuff.

That gives us an average of 15.5 years of peace time in between conflict times. Which begs the question: Is war a cornerstone of our economic prosperity?
