I watched all 4 Angel movies recently in a row. They are not contiguos in any way, except the drag queen character is recurring, and Angel obviously recurs (call the english police). So in part 3, Mark Blankfield stars as the drag queen who is Angel's friend and godfather in a way. I was stoked, because Mark Blankfield plays in my favorite movie Jekyll and Hyde Together Again, where the mysterious potion that Dr. Jekyll creates is actually cocaine. I won't ruin for it for you, but let's just say the transformation scene is better than Thriller, and it involves growing gold chains.

I told my father that I wanted to see Never Cry Wolf, a movie about the Canadian Gvt. killing wolves. But when I got to the theater I saw this tempting flick. Wow! Angel was 15 years old. I was almost 14. We were basically the same age. And I had ten dollars in my pocket. What kind of tasty favor would that buy me? So I pretended to go to Never Cry Wolf and at the last second I snuck into Angel. It was perverse and uplifiting. She didn't like being a hooker, but circumstances had forced her into that position. Now there was killer on the loose and a cop who only wanted to help. This stuff was smoking! Consider that it had to compete with Yentl, Scarface, Silkwood, Terms of Endearment, The Big Chill, and the excellent D.C. Cab, it was a miracle Angel survived. You don't see any of those other films getting sequels do you? No, Angel was my first defeat. She tempted me with pigtails and I ignored Never Cry Wolf. It was all downhill from here. When Avenging Angel came out the next year I was brazenly drinking whiskey in the theater and yelling, "Take yer clothes off ya whore!" It was somewhere between these two fine movies that I realized that I was Angel. The movie was about me.
